MARINA LEADS THE CELEBRATION OF THE DAY OF FILIPINO SEAFARER
The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), led the national celebration of the Day of the Filipino Seafarer last 25 June 2015 at the MARINA Central Office Manila, in pursuant to Proclamation No. 183 dated 03 June 2011 with the theme “Marinong Pilipino, Dangal ka ng Lahi Mo”.
HISTORIC VISIT OF PANAMA MARITIME AUTHORITY’S ADMINISTRATOR
For the first time, the Panama Maritime Authority or Autoridad Maritima de Panama (AMP) officials made a courtesy call and met with MARINA Officials on August 5, 2014. The Panamanian delegation was headed by Ambassador Roberto Carlos Vallarino, Embassy of Panama in the Philippines together with AMP Administrator Jorge Barakat and Mr. Jorge Luis Aizpurua, Director of Seafarers.
NEW OFFICIALS FOR MARINA’S STCW OFFICE
On February 10, 2014, President Benigno Aquino III has appointed Atty. Alvin A. Tormon and Atty. Jabeth Sena Jepath A. Dacanay as Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director, respectively to spearhead the Standards on Training, Certification and Watchkeeping Office
(STCWO) of the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA). They took their Oath of Office before the Honorable Joseph Emilio Aguinaldo Abaya, Secretary, Department of Transportation and Communications on March 7, 2014.

On August 27, 2014, President Benigno Aquino III appointed Capt. Herminio P. Estaniel as Director IV at the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC), and subsequently appointed by the Honorable Joseph Emilio Aguinaldo Abaya as the MARINA’s Deputy Administrator for Regional Concerns. He took his Oath of Office before Secretary Abaya on September 5, 2014.
WORLD MARITIME UNIVERSITY (WMU) FIELD STUDIES IN PH
The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) is privileged to coordinate the WMU Field Studies for the Maritime Safety and Environmental Administration 2014 students in the Philippines from May 05 to 09, 2014. This is the first that the WMU has conducted their field studies in the country.

MARINA PILOT TESTS ONLINE APPOINTMENT SYSTEM ON OCTOBER 01, 2014
The Online Appointment System (OLAS) of the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) on the application for Seafarers Identification and Record Book (SIRB), otherwise known as “seaman’s book” and Certificate of Proficiency (COP) shall be pilot tested at the MARINA Central Office starting 01 October 2014.
