MARINA Implements “Oplan Ligtas Biyahe Krismas 2014”

In line with the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) Order No. 2012-01 to strictly enforce and intensify heightened alert status during the Yuletide Season, “OPLAN LIGTAS BIYAHE KRISMAS 2014” was implemented by the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA).

The undertaking was fully implemented by this Authority’s Enforcement Service (ES) through the issuance of Special Order No. 1610-14 effective 19 December 2014 to 05 January 2015 purposely intended to attend to the influx of passengers during the holiday season.

Under “Oplan Ligtas Biyahe Krismas 2014”, Maritime Regional Offices (MRO’s) also operationalized the program in their respective area of responsibility and provided updates to the central office. Domestic passenger vessels were closely monitored and inspected in compliance with MARINA rules and regulations prior to its departure.

Implementation of MARINA Advisory No. 2012-19 dated 23 October 2012 entitled “Requirement of all Passengers to undergo and pass thru Security Check-Up” was also taken into consideration which required all passengers including those passengers of bus and private cars to undergo/pass thru the mandatory security check at the passenger terminal.

During the Oplan, the Enforcement Service noted the delays on vessel departure at the Manila North Harbor Ports Inc. (MNHPI) and other ports in the country due to Tropical Depression “Seniang” at northern Mindanao.

All activities related to “Oplan Ligtas Biyahe: Krismas 2014” were successful through the efforts of, and coordination with, MARINA stakeholders and concerned government agencies.
