NBI CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT FOR PROCESSING OF SEAFARER IDENTIFICATION
AND RECORD BOOK (SIRB)


The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) announced that any valid National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) clearance, regardless of stated purpose, shall be honored in connection with applications for certificates or seaman’s books. MARINA shall accept any NBI clearance certificate, whether it is “VISA-SEAMAN” or “local-PRC requirement” or for any other stated purpose. This is in accord with existing MARINA Circular No. 2009-10 relative to the submission of the required NBI certificate for the purpose of securing SIRB.
