#SeafarersAreKeyWorkers: MARINA to celebrate ‘Day of Seafarer’ through webinar

Amid the surge of challenges in the first half of the year, the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) is all the more enthusiastic to celebrate the nobility of Filipino seafarers on the Day of the Seafarer on 25 June 2020.

Through a webinar, the MARINA will be hosting 2020’s celebration with the theme ‘#SeafarersAreKeyWorkers,’ highlighting their critical role in the continuing transport of commodities such as food and medicines especially in this time of global health crisis. They have kept the supply chain intact, thus preventing product shortages around the world.

Esteemed professionals are expected to share with seafarers their knowledge and advice on staying on track with their goals and on keeping a sound mind regardless of adversities at sea. Further, to give the latest updates on MARINA issuances pertaining to the examination, certification and issuance of SRB representatives from the concerned divisions shall also take part in the said webinars.

The public is invited to join the celebration of the 2020 Day of the Seafarer on 25 June 2020 through the official Facebook page of the MARINA.

Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Administrator Vice Admiral Robert A Empedrad extends his snappy salute to Filipino seafarers in view of the celebration of the Day of the Seafarer 2020.

Proudly recognizing them as ‘key workers,’ VADM Empedrad lauded Filipino seafarers for their hard work and sacrifice to keep the supply chain intact especially in this time of global health and economic crisis.

Recognizing the seafarer’s vital role in this crisis and as part of the MARINA’s initiatives, the Agency has set measures to extend assistance to seafarers–such as the extension of the validity of STCW certificates, the resumption of trainings, crafting of protocol for crew change and assisting stranded seafarers. VADM Empedrad further stressed the government’s efforts to repatriate stranded seafarers.

Notwithstanding the appreciation of the MARINA for Filipino seafarers on the Day of the Seafarer, VADM Empedrad firmly reminded the nation that no amount of gratitude could equate the nobility of Filipino seafarers.

Tribute for Seafarers

MARINA Tribute Video for Seafarers on Day of the Seafarer 2020

It is said the shipping is an industry that contributes over 90% to the world’s economy wherein there are more than 100,000 merchant ships plying all over the world, moving goods from one point to another. And seafarers are the ones responsible in carrying these vessels safely.

Seafarers are essential to the world trade. Without seafarers, the world economy would shut down. At this crucial time wherein the world is experiencing the Covid-19 pandemic, our seafarers are continuously working, bravely, and silently, at sea.

And to cap off todays’ celebration of the 2020 Day of the Seafarer and commemoration of the 10th year Anniversary of the 2010 Manila Amendments to the STCW Convention and Code, we, in MARINA, acknowledges all your efforts to keep our economy moving with this video tribute to all seafarers!

THANK YOU, SEAFARERS! SALUTE TO OUR INVISIBLE HEROES!
